The Boston Burglar

The Boston Burglar [Roud 261; Laws L16; Henry H691] is a transportation ballad, popularized for Irish audiences mostly by Johnny McEvoy in 1967. It is considered an American adaptation of the English song "The Whitby Lad / Botany Bay", which was widely spread as a sea shanty during the nineteenth century. In the early twentieth century it crossed the Atlantic again back towards the British Isles and became a very popular song in parts of Ireland and Scotland.
