Drums, guitars, tracking...
Drums
O'Heads - 3 U47's, Left, Centre, Right
Kick - U47 FET outside skin, can't remember what he used inside but he doesn't like D112's
Snare - Shure KSM 141 (I think) on top, AKG 451 below
Toms - U67 if it's a careful drummer, 57's/421's
Hats - KM84
Drums front - 2 x U67 about 4 - 6 feet away
Drums Room - think it was an M50
Basically, after hearing the stems, the kit is pretty much made up from the 3 U47's as o'heads with the kick mics adding a bit of bottom end boost.
Guitars
Acoustic Guitar - U47 close to strings at the bottom of the guitar, AKG 451 at the 12th fret
Electric Guitar - (Using a 4 x 12) Combination of 57, 421, M160 and U67
He seems to like quite a variety of vintage amps although he did speak very highly of the Orange tiny terror
Mixing
He obviously spoke a lot about the Waves Classic Collection although because he was with a Waves spokesperson I won't include this here as absolute fact although he did seem to genuinely quite like the SSL, API and V-Series plug-ins.
He likes to add eq and compression on most tracks. He generally seems to boost rather than to cut because he uses mic positioning to eliminate unwanted frequencies.
He likes the EMT 140 plate and also use of slap-back and tape delay.
Tracking
He uses 24 track 2" tape because of the 'bump' it gives at 15 ips. He uses RMG tape these days and transfers to PT HD at 96k, 24 bit via a converter that I'd never heard of (will let someone else fill this part in) or Prism depending on what is
around.
He also uses a lot of eq and some compression/limiting on the way in. He particularly likes the 1176 and LA-2A and uses both for compressing vocals.
