Pulnoc Live at CBGB's October 30, 1990
Živé vystoupení
Vznik: 30.10.1990
The following is the only known recording of Czech band Půlnoc performing live at CBGB's on October 30, 1990. It was originally shot on 8mm video by Margaret Hetherman - NYU film student at the time. The footage went through numerous transfers and sat dormant in her basement for 30 years, until a copy was eventually unearthed and digitized. She is excited to share it now with Půlnoc fans all over the world -- and to add to the historic record. Půlnoc was formed in 1988 following the breakup of Plastic People of the Universe (PPU), the legendary underground East Bloc rock band that endured two decades of persecution by the Soviet's Communist regime. The Czech government refused to let them travel or perform. But the band refused to cease and desist. Indeed, they contributed to the revolution. Founder Milan Hlavsa rebranded the group as Půlnoc, new members were added, and in the spring of 1989, Půlnoc mounted a seven-city tour of the U.S. One year later after the Velvet Revolution, free of Communist oppression, the band returned to New York City for two historic concerts, including the one you are about to see. Follow me on Twitter @Hetherman for news on a forthcoming release of a CNN segment on the band.
