Scharnhorst represents a raw testimony to probably the most megalomaniac pre-atomic warfare, its pride and its vanity in the face of war gods.
Scharnhorst was sunk 76 years ago on 26 December 1943 during the operation Ostfront, so during the downgrading struggle of Nazi Germany to interrupt Allied convoys carrying the supplies and war material to USSR. Its sortie ended in the last maritime battle decided by naval gunnery in Europe. Of 1968 souls on board, only 36 men survived.
