The band Sen Zu was founded in 2004 in Warsaw on the initiative of Zuza Pytlińska - the lead singer and Tomek Wojdyga – the guitarist of the band. The sound of Sen Zu has always been inspired by broadly defined alternative music. It is a mixture of rock as well as elements of punk and electro.
From the very start of their existence the band has intensively taken part in the development of Warsaw’s alternative and indie rock scene. During the first year of their activity, Sen Zu gave a series of concerts all over Poland and recorded a demo. However, due to the acting of dark forces, they had to suspend their work. Over the following two-year break Sen Zu’s musicians participated in more or less known projects in Warsaw. In November 2007 they came together again. The founders of Sen Zu were joined by bass player Andrzej „Traktor” Szczirij who had also appeared in the former line-up, and drummer Maciek „Ponton” Sosnowski who got to the band after leaving his former project Happysad – today a well-known Polish indie rock band. Since then Sen Zu have started to work intensively on the new material and decided to release their first album. In May 2008 they took up studio recording sessions which, excluding the summer holiday break, lasted until October. At the same time the search for a publisher began, which resulted in signing a contract with Poland’s most significant independent record label - S.P. Records.
The outcome of the co-operation with S.P. Records is the album „Stajlisz & Romantik” released in November 2009, including thirteen diverse compositions which constitute an interesting and fresh sounding entity. Although you can hear the influences of many genres from grunge over screamo to dance punk, the album is not only coherent, but also has its own inimitable style. It delivers a huge portion of dynamism and energy, but also a substancial dose of lyrical atmospherics. The tracks have an enormous emotional load increased by the charismatic leadsinger Zu – the band’s eye-catching front lady endowed with a deep, uncommon voice as well as a great power of expression, and the author of all lyrics often being very personal. In short, the music of Sen Zu is, in unison with the album’s title, stylish and romantic just a little bit louder.
Since the album release Sen Zu played a series of club concerts all over Poland, always getting a very warm welcome and gaining many fans. The band also obtained many positive reviews. The singles promoting the album appear on the playlists of many Polish student and rock radio stations and had or still have the leading positions of many hitlists, e.g. the so called „Turbotop”-list of the Antyradio, one of the most important Polish rock radio station. Sen Zu’s musicians have been guests at multiple radio auditions, among others several times at the above mentioned Antyradio.
Currently, Sen Zu perform a lot on stage and prepare for the upcoming spring and autumn open air concerts. At the same time the band work on new material for their second album which is planned to be recorded in summer 2010.
