Bio a historie

STAYJ is a Prague-based indie band that plays a characteristic modern fusion of rock, jazz and pop with British and French influences. STAYJ’s catchy melodies are accompanied by soulful trumpets and saxophones. The name STAYJ refers to the beginning letter of the four founding members’ names.

STAYJ composed their upcoming single Palette of the World as a theme song to the Central European Jamboree 2022. The song expresses a first-hand understanding of those who are trying to find their “shade in the painting of the world”. Eventually, the main hero of the song realises that they are good enough for who they already are. After all, while trying to find our place in the world is important, the true human worth is already somewhere within. The band will deliver a live performance premiere of the single on the 7th of August at Prague Exhibition Grounds.

In February 2020, STAYJ released their first EP Chapter 1: Stories, which was recorded in Prague and in Edinburgh. The story in one of the songs – Word Jail – is narrated in an animated music video made by Harvey Auerbach-Dunn.  Later on, the band got inspired in Dresden, Germany by a homeless man who joined their performance as a singer. To thank STAYJ for the show, he drew them a picture immediately after the show had ended. The band transformed the experience into their recent single No Money to Spare. A sense of fulfilment of those who do not have many material belongings could have not been authentically portrayed if it were not for the incredible workers of the homeless charity organisation Novy Prostor who participated in the filming of the music video.

First and foremost, STAYJ tries to develop close connections with their audience, striving for a friendly atmosphere before, during and after their shows. During the pandemic, the band tried to reinforce these connections by busking and by recording the song “Little Guy” from home. The release concert of the single No Money to Spare took place on the 24th of June 2021. The earnings from the show were used to help homeless charity organisations recover after the coronavirus break. In March 2022, by composing a new song and organising a charity concert, STAYJ expressed their support to the brave people of Ukraine. The band will continue doing so for as long as it's needed.
